Evil or Very Mad Ok so i'm not one to complain... but there is a first for everything!!! So i do believe there is a law about having your pet on a lease... and i wonder about all the dogs and cats i see just wandering the block like its no big deal!!!! My fiance almost hit one today!!!! He tried to swerve and thank goodness nothing happened, but it would have been a tragedy if it did... and i guess its cause and effect... the cars that are parked in the street (all the time) when he came around the corner the cat ran out from under the car!!! Is there anything we can do about this????

I know these are lame excuses but my cat has been adopted by many neighbors. We had 4, now 3 (the risk of letting them out). Only 1 goes outside. He is an dirty white cat named JAQ. He and his brother GusGus were rescued barn cats whose mommy didn't come home one day. They were hand fed and therefore very friendly. They also would NOT stay in. I am sorry. We put in a fence knowing that this fat cat could not jump it but DNI made us put in the fence with a 3"gap intead of the 2" pet safe one we requested. So now he just walks right though the skats! Three grand well spent! I should have fought harder. There is not much I can do but to say any of us who let our pets roam know the risks.

Here is what you do about stray pets. Call the police department and they will bring out and set up a trap in your yard. When an animal has been caught, they will come back and pick it up and take it to the pound. I am so tired of seeing animals wander without leashes. This is not a farm. Everyone knew before they moved in here that they were getting small yards. I am also sick and tired of finding paw prints all over my car when cats have been all over it.

This problem may take care of itself. My husband heard coyotes the other night killing someones dog. Leaving the dogs tie-up outside is not safe.
By the way - this IS the country and it WAS a farm. I'm sure there is a nice condo somewhere you might like better.

I took the liberty to look up a couple of things for you.

First of all according to Article 1 Section 205.080 from http://www.ctspublish.com/wentzvillelp/lpext.dll?f=templates&fn=frame_default.htm (The Municipal Code of the City of Wentzville)
it states...It shall be unlawful for any person owning, controlling, harboring, possessing, or having the management or care, in whole or in part, of any dog, cat or other animal to permit the dog, cat or other animal to run at large. (CC 1988 §5-9; Ord. No. 724 §6, 4-24-80)

Also according to http://www.wentzvillemo.org/econ.htm it states "We've gone from a small, country town of just over 5,000 in 1990, to a dynamic growing city of over 20,000 today."

Therefore you can see that you cannot have animals roaming the neighborhood and sorry but this is no longer the country. You were correct in stating it WAS a farm but it is no longer.

Maybe you should explain this to the coyotes.

That sounds intelligent. Coyotes are not domesticated animals that we keep for pets and our pets we cant let roam. If anyone cares about their animals, they wont let them roam or leave them out at night unattended so something could harm them. I've seen coyotes roam Creve Couer, does that make Creve Couer the country now too?

I never intended for people to let their pets roam all of the time. I meant for folks not to leave them tied up and leave or go to bed. I am angry because I don't want to hear again the sound of a childs pet being torn to bloody shreads in their own yard while you are whinning about paw prints on your car! Park in the garage then.

Nextly, I have talked with a long time residence of Wentzville and appearently there have problems with packs of wild dogs in the past. Wentzville has done a good job of keeping this quite. Maybe some of the complaints in the area are not from our own pets but wild animals or domesticated animals that were dumped in the park.

Finally, you know darn good and well that country is not defined by money hungry locals looking for tax revenue. See them there trees is a clump - that be woods. The fields are not just undeveolped subdivions but actuial open land - WOW. Granted it won't be country for long.

Well no one needs to let them roam either and according to your earlier post, your not the one who heard the dog being attacked, it was your husband. Can you please get your story straight! Paw prints are not our only problem with the cats and boy I wonder why I never thought of parking in the garage...lady, I have been parking in the garage for a long time now.

"See them there trees is a clump-that be woods"...now I know what kind of person I have been wasting my time on. Lady, we still dont live in an area that allows us to let our pets roam.

Keep your cats in the house and have some respect!

I've known for sometime now the kind of person I was dealing with.

True, is was the hubby that heard the murder but I have heard them a couple of times myself. We get home at prime coyote time. I was hoping you wouldn't catch that. LOL.

You forget, I only let my 1 cat out into my fenced yard. Thanks to the Meyer co - it does no good. We fought them hard to get the 2" gaps but lost.

I am training him to be out a couple of hours before work and after. He's young but he is learning.

My point is, just because you let your pet out doesn't mean you aren't a responsible pet owner. It's not a black and white thing. There are choices other than indoors only and roaming free.

While free-roaming cats are one thing, dogs are quite another. I am not aware of any lawsuits or euthanized animals resulting from random household cat attacks, but you really leave yourself open when you let your dog out without a leash or supervision. I know that most of of us think the world of our pets, and probably wouldn't have them at all if we thought them to be dangerous. However, there are many small children in our neighborhood, and it is just in a dog's nature to chase a small moving target. Even if the dog has no intention of harming the child, it's sheer body weight and momentum, slamming into a small child, would be enough to do a great deal of damage.

While walking my dog just last week, I heard the front door of the house I had just passed open and close. When I turned to look, there was not a person standing there, but a leashless yellow lab running full tilt at my dog and I. Whoever owns her just puts her out without any kind of restraint or supervision, and apparently without looking to see if anyone might be in the immediate area. In my opinion, that's just irresponsible, and unfortunately that partincular lab is not the only dog allowed to roam freely through our neighborhood. We have run into her several times since then, always alone and leashless, and while she seems to be a very sweet dog, it would have been a real shame if she or my dog (or myself for that matter) were hurt due to a miscommunication between the two dogs.

I walk my dog every day for exercise only (he only uses the bathroom in my fenced backyard), but if you don't have a controlled area to let your dog out to potty, you need to put them on a leash and take them for a walk (and please take the poop with you). If you are too busy to do that, then you might want to rethink being a dog owner. Walking your dog is one of the best things you can do for him and for you, while keeping your dog and the rest of the neighborhood free from injury.
